LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Delaney Heller was once again dominant on Saturday morning, punching out eight Pittsburgh hitters over six innings of work, but it was not enough as the Toreros (1-1) fell to the Panthers (2-1) 2-1.

In addition to her eight strikeouts, Heller (1-1) threw six innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits and walking only two.

Senior catcher
Madison Casiano led the way offensively for the Toreros, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a walk and an RBI. Junior
Hayley Hensley was potent offensively as well going 2-for-3.
Kelli Kufta chipped in as well for San Diego driving her first double of the year, hitting 1-for-3 on the morning.

Pittsburgh and San Diego remained scoreless through the first, before the Panthers scored on a single through the left side in the bottom of the second. Heller collected six strikeouts in the third and fourth to keep the Toreros within striking distance.

The Toreros stranded two runners in the top of the fifth after
Halle Kyler singled to shortstop. Pittsburgh tacked on another in the top of the sixth to create a two-run advantage. Casiano responded with an RBI single, scoring freshman
Elisa Princic from third base. USD made solid contact in the top of the seventh but were unable to put across another run.

San Diego will take on Cal Poly later today at 4:30 p.m. (PT) to close out day two of the Stacey Winsberg Memorial Tournament.
