LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Toreros (2-1) broke through after a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning to take down the Mustangs (1-3) 4-3 on Saturday afternoon.

Delaney Heller (2-1) got the win out of the bullpen for San Diego. The right-hander went 1.1 shutout innings, striking out four. Freshman
Courtney Rose made her collegiate debut in relief, going 3.2 shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking one and striking out one.

Rion Simms led the way offensively for the Toreros, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a walk and an RBI. Second baseman
Sara Silveyra furnished a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-3 with a double.
Halle Kyler was once again vital in San Diego's lineup slugging her third double of the season.

The Toreros broke through first putting runs on the scoreboard in the second inning. Senior
Madison Casiano came through for the second time on Saturday with an RBI single, scoring
Hayley Hensley from second.

The Mustangs rallied in the top of the third, putting together a two-run advantage before Rose entered to shut out the side. San Diego answered back in the fourth as freshman
Savannah Alarcon registered her first collegiate hit to load the bases. Simms then singled to right to bring the Toreros within one.

Rose forced three flyouts for a one, two, three inning in the top of the fifth before San Diego continued to rally to tie it even at three. Sophomore
Lauren Hendrickson came through, connecting for an RBI single off the bench to score
Sophia Bjerk.

The Toreros' defense held the Mustangs in the top of the sixth, before sophomore
Kelli Kufta executed on a bunt attempt to give San Diego a one run advantage, 4-3. Heller then registered three strikeouts in the top of the seventh to close out the game.

Up next, San Diego will face No. 4 UCLA at 11:30 a.m. (PT) on Sunday before a rematch with the Mustangs at 2 p.m. (PT).
