Herren, Jr. Added to Torero Roster

Guard from Boston College has two years of eligibility remaining

SAN DIEGO – Chris Herren, Jr., who spent the last two seasons at Boston College, will join San Diego men's basketball as a transfer, head coach Sam Scholl announced.
 
The 6-3 guard will sit out the 2020-21 season due to NCAA transfer rules. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
 
"Chris brings a great dimension of drive and passion to be the best version of himself he can be on a daily basis to our program," said Scholl. "Chris combines great shooting and speed who has made shots in some of the toughest arenas in college basketball in the ACC the last two years. We are extremely excited about Chris joining our basketball family and seeing him grow as a person, student and player."
 
Originally from Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Herren, Jr. played in 49 career games at Boston College, including 31 as a freshman in 2018-19. In that campaign, one in which he also made eight starts, he averaged 4.3 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 15.4 minutes per game.
 
In two collegiate seasons, Herren, Jr. has averaged 3.2 points in 13.0 minutes per game.
 
After spending two seasons at Portsmouth High, Herren, Jr. played his last two years of prep at Tabor Academy in Massachusetts. He averaged 23.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists as a senior and made 42 percent of his three-point attempts.
 
Herren, Jr.'s father, Chris Herren, is a former NBA player and McDonald's All-American who played at Boston College and Fresno State. He is now a bestselling author, motivational speaker and founder of the Herren Project, which helps individuals and family members find treatment and support for the disease of addiction.
 
Herren, Jr. is the fifth transfer officially added to the Torero roster in the current signing period. He joins grad transfer guard Frankie Hughes (Duquesne), grad transfer guard/forward Josh Parrish (Rice), rising junior forward Ben Pyle (Western Illinois), and rising sophomore forward Yavuz Gultekin (Texas A&M).
 
The group of five transfers has a combined 260 career games of college experience.
 
They will join nine letterwinners from a year ago, including three of the five starters and six of the eight players who averaged more than 10 minutes per game. Hughes and Parrish along with Braun Hartfield and Yauhen Massalski make up the senior class.
