LAST TIME OUT
The Toreros announced a pause in team activity on Jan. 1 after a positive COVID-19 test result within the program, postponing five games including BYU, Saint Mary's, LMU, Santa Clara and Pacific. All games have since been rescheduled for later this season. Their last competition was a Dec. 31 loss at San Francisco, 70-62 to open up the conference schedule.
Â
USD had three players score double-digits but a late run by the Dons proved costly. The Toreros shot 45 percent from the field in a back-and-forth game that saw 10 ties and 11 lead changes.
Â
The teams battled to a 49-49 tie before USF went on a 17-3 run to take a commanding lead with 2:26 remaining. USD mounted a late comeback, cutting the lead to six with under a minute to go but could not complete the comeback.
Â
Josh Parrish put together one of his strongest performances yet as a Torero, leading USD with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Joey Calcaterra recorded his fifth double-digit game, finishing with 14 points and
Yauhen Massalski scored 12 points and added five rebounds on the day.
Â
ALL TIME SERIES WITH SANTA CLARA
Sunday will be the 89th meeting between the Toreros and the Broncos. USD trails the all-time series with the Broncos, 38-50, and fell in both contests last year. San Diego dropped its road contest at Santa Clara, 63-80 and fell to SCU in the JCP, 52-65.
Â
The teams first met during the 1963-64 season and the Broncos have won four of the last five meetings. USD only win during that time came during the second round of the 2018-19 WCC Tournament with a 62-45 victory.
Â
ALL TIME SERIES WITH LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
Tuesday will be the 104th meeting between USD and LMU. The Toreros hold the slight advantage in the all-time series with the Lions, 52-51. LMU took both meetings last season, defeating San Diego 64-58 in Los Angeles during the regular season and 75-61 in the opening round of the 2019-20 WCC Tournament.
Â
The teams first met during the 1977-78 season and San Diego has won four of the last six contests, sweeping the series in 2018-19 and 2017-18.
Â
