SAN DIEGO—San Diego will continue a busy week when the Toreros travel to Portland for a Saturday matchup in the Chiles Center.
 
USD (1-6, 0-3 WCC) will play its third game in seven days, taking on the Pilots (6-7, 0-4 WCC) with tipoff set for 2 p.m. PT.

LAST TIME OUT
The Toreros battled down to the wire in a 72-69 overtime loss at LMU on Tuesday (Jan. 19) evening. USD had four players score double-digits and the Toreros shot 39 percent from the field.
 
Vladimir Pinchuk notched his second double-double in as many games, with 13 points, 10 rebounds. In addition to Pinchuk, Josh Parrish also led USD with 13 points on the night. Jared Rodriguez and Frankie Hughes added 12 points and 11 points respectively.
 
The Toreros forced 15 LMU turnovers while protecting the ball well, giving it up only eight times. USD held the advantage in most statistical categories, but the Lions (7-4, 2-1 WCC) went 77 percent (13-of-17) from the free throw line compared to 55 percent (6-for-11) for the Toreros which proved a difference-maker.
 
ALL TIME SERIES WITH PORTLAND
Saturday is the 89th all-time meeting between USD and Portland. The Toreros hold a 57-31 advantage all-time against the Pilots. USD won both matchups last season including an 88-81 double-overtime win in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
 
The teams first met during the 1979-80 season and USD has won the last five meetings, including their 2018-19 WCC Tournament opener against the Pilots.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Next up, USD will return to the Jenny Craig Pavilion for a three-game homestand against No. 1 Gonzaga (Jan. 28), Loyola Marymount (Jan. 30) and BYU (Feb. 2).
 
TOREROS DEPTH TESTED
USD has been without its leading scorer Joey Calcaterra and leading rebounder/shot blocker Yauhen Massalski for the past two games. In their absence, Vladimir Pinchuk has stepped up for the Toreros, recording back-to-back double-doubles in his first two starts for USD. The redshirt junior tallied 19 points and 11 rebounds against Santa Clara and 13 points, 10 rebounds at LMU.
 
Jared Rodriguez also had back-to-back double-digit scoring efforts off the bench for USD, finishing with 11 against the Broncos and 12 points against the Lions.
