PORTLAND, Ore.—Five Toreros scored in double digits and San Diego took down Portland, 78-70 on the road Saturday for its first WCC win of the season.

The Toreros (2-6, 1-3 WCC) shot 56 percent from the field, led by
Josh Parrish, who had a career-high 20 points, adding eight rebounds and two steals.
Joey Calcaterra added 12 points off the bench in his first game back and
Marion Humphrey helped out with 11 points and two steals.

Finn Sullivan and
Vladimir Pinchuk both registered 10 points in a balanced offense for the Toreros, who recorded 14 assists as a team, led by Sullivan with five.

San Diego held the slight advantage in the rebounding battle, 28-27, over the Pilots (6-9, 0-6 WCC), led by Parrish and
Ben Pyle who added seven boards on the day. USD took care of business in the paint, outscoring the Pilots, 52-28, in the lane.

The San Diego defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 16 Portland turnovers while committing 14. Those takeaways turned into 17 points on the offensive end of the floor. Six Toreros recorded at least one steal, while Sullivan, Humphrey and Parrish each had two.

After jumping out to an 8-6 advantage, San Diego went on a 7-0 run with 16:27 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Calcaterra, to increase its lead to 15-6.

The Toreros shot 68 percent (19-of-28) from the field to enter halftime with a 43-34 advantage. San Diego did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 32 of its 43 points close to the basket.

San Diego kept its lead intact before going on a 10-0 run to grow the lead to 64-47 with 9:29 to go in the contest. The Pilots narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Toreros still cruised the rest of the way for the 78-70 win.

The Toreros are back in action on Thursday, when they will host No. 1 Gonzaga in the Jenny Craig Pavilion at 6 p.m. PT.
