SAN DIEGO – The West Coast Conference (WCC) has announced the 2021-22 Men's Basketball Preseason Poll and Preseason All-WCC Team. San Diego was tabbed ninth with 20 total points.
 
The Toreros lineup features 10 new faces in 2021-22, including transfers Bryce Monroe (Sam Houston State), Jase Townsend (Denver), Marcellus Earlington (St. John's), TJ Berger (Georgetown), and Terrell Brown (Pittsburgh).
 
Freshmen Wayne McKinney III (Coronado, CA/Coronado), Alijah Kuehl (St. Augustine, FL/Bartram Trail), Muon Reath (Ottawa, Canada/Toronto Basketball Academy), Dominic Muncey (San Diego, CA/Cathedral Catholic), and Patrick Caero (Fort Worth, TX/Trinity Valley School) will also look to contribute in their first season.
 
Notable returners include redshirt senior guard Joey Calcaterra (13.3 PPG), graduate forward Josh Parrish (10.5 PPG), and redshirt senior center Vladimir Pinchuk (7.6 PPG).
 
Gonzaga was selected to finish first, with nine first-place votes and 81 total points. BYU, Saint Mary's, LMU, and San Francisco round out the top five.
 
USD will begin the season on Tuesday, November 9 against La Verne. Conference plays will start on Thursday, December 30 as the Toreros host preseason favorite Gonzaga inside the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
