MALIBU, Calif. — No. 22 San Diego volleyball (13-3, 7-0 WCC) earned its seventh consecutive victory on Thursday night, battling No. 24 Pepperdine (13-3, 5-2 WCC) through five sets for a 3-2 decision at the Firestone Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET - (SAN DIEGO, 25-21)
- The Toreros traded points with the Waves until midway through the first set, when Blackwell tied it at 13 with a kill.
- Frohling gave USD its first lead of the set with an ace to make it 17-16.
- Blackwell added a clutch block in the set's late stages to expand the Toreros' lead to 21-19.
- Frohling finished things off with her fourth kill of the night to earn San Diego a 25-21 victory in the set and a 1-0 lead in the match.
SECOND SET - (PEPPERDINE, 25-19)
- USD led by as many as three points early on but the Waves rallied back to tie it at 10 before they pulled ahead.
- A Frohling kill pulled the Toreros back to within one and make the score 16-15, but Pepperdine rattled off five straight points to establish a 20-15 lead.
- A pair of service aces from sophomore setter Alex Hoglund made it 23-19 late and forced a Waves timeout, but Pepperdine rallied back to finish it and take the set by a 25-19 margin, evening the match at one set apiece.
THIRD SET - (SAN DIEGO, 25-21)
- Lukes notched her 10th kill of the match early on, helping USD get out to a 7-3 lead.
- After falling behind, another kill from Lukes and a pair of attack errors from Pepperdine brought the Toreros back out in front by a 15-14 margin before the Waves took a timeout.
- USD ran its lead out to seven points, a stretch that was punctuated by Frohling's second service ace of the match to make it 23-16 in favor of San Diego.
- The Toreros secured the set when freshman outside hitter Annika Hester notched a clutch kill, punctuating a big rally with a point to earn her team a 25-21 win in the set, and a 2-1 advantage in the match.
FOURTH SET - (PEPPERDINE, 27-25)
- Lukes tied the set at 14 with a booming kill, then Frohling notched a clutch block to make it 19-16 USD.
- Pepperdine tied the set at 23, 24, and 25, and the Toreros couldn't get the final point as they dropped a 27-25 decision in the set to tie the match at two sets apiece.
FIFTH SET - (SAN DIEGO, 15-13)
- Lukes tied the set at six with a clutch kill, then Hester kept it tied at seven with one of her own.
- Lukes then launched another emphatic kill to make it 13 to 11 in favor of USD before Pepperdine tied it at 13.
- Lukes added one more kill to make it 14-13 before Frohling ended it with a kill to earn USD a 15-13 win in the set, and a 3-2 win in the match.

With the win (the Toreros' seventh in a row), USD's record moves to 13-3, and 7-0 in WCC play.
