SAN DIEGO — San Diego men's soccer (1-11-0, 0-2 WCC) tied the game with less than three minutes remaining but couldn't hold on, dropping a tough 2-1 decision to San Diego State (7-3-2, 2-3-0 Mountain West) on Friday night at Torero Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
San Diego State struck first with a goal in the sixth minute courtesy of Andre Ochoa.
The Aztecs took a 1-0 lead into the half and led until the 88th minute, when sophomore midfielder
Ross Johnstone (assisted by
Mason Tunbridge) kicked in the equalizer to make it a 1-1 game.
San Diego State then converted on a penalty kick in the game's final seconds to secure the 2-1 win. Blake Bowen had the game-winning score, assisted by Inigo VillaIdea.
TORERO TIDBITS
Rhys Gourdie totaled four shots, with two on goal.
Mason Tunbridge added two shots of his own, both on goal, and
Luke Pardoe added a single shot.
USD led the match with five corners to SDSU'S one.
The Toreros outshot the Aztecs nine to to six, with five total shots on goal to SDSU's three.
