Toreros Travel to Portland

USD continues WCC play at Merlo Field

PORTLAND, Ore — San Diego men's soccer (1-9, 0-1 WCC) continues West Coast Conference play on the road this weekend, traveling to Portland, Oregon to take on Portland (5-5, 0-1 WCC) at Merlo Field.

The 4:00 p.m. matchup is set to be streamed live on the WCC Network, and live statistics will be available on PortlandPilots.com.

ALL-TIME SERIES VERSUS PORTLAND
The Toreros are 22-18-8 against the Pilots all-time, with the two programs' most recent meeting coming in March of this year, a 1-1 tie in double overtime at Torero Stadium.

USD most recently traveled to Merlo Field in October of 2018, a matchup that also ended in a 1-1 double-OT tie.

San Diego's previous meeting with the Pilots on the road in October 2017 also ended in a 1-1 tie in double overtime, marking three of the last four games between the two teams concluding with a tie at one and double overtime.

The lone decision in the last four years between Portland and the Toreros that was not a tie came in the form of a 4-2 USD win at Torero Stadium on November 9, 2019.

LAST TIME OUT
The Toreros dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Gonzaga last time out on Friday, October 1, falling to the Bulldogs at Torero Stadium.

After the Bulldogs struck first in the eighth minute, senior Cameron Kaemerle chipped in a goal of his own to tie things up in the 29th with an assist from Owen Wiebe. Mason Tunbridge then helped USD pull ahead in the 44th minute, launching a towering unassisted shot from midfield that found the bottom center of the goal to give the Toreros a 2-1 advantage at the half.

Gonzaga tied things up with a goal in the 55th minute, then sealed the 3-2 victory with another score in the 68th.

Nicklas Clausen led the way for USD with four shots (two on goal), adding on to his team-high season total of 25 (13 on goal). Luke Pardoe had three shots, Rhys Gourdie had two, and Kaemerle, Paul Ramlow, and Till Stockman each had one.

Goalkeeper Marley Mascarenas notched four saves.

LOOKING AHEAD
After taking on the Pilots in Portland, the Toreros will return home for a rivalry matchup, taking on crosstown foe San Diego State at Torero Stadium on Friday, October 15. Kickoff versus the Aztecs is set for 7:30 p.m.
