San Diego Toreros Defeat Fresno State

The Toreros won 68-64 in game one of The Dana on Mission Bay Holiday Tournament

SAN DIEGOThe Toreros defeated Fresno State 68-64 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion on Friday, November 26. The team remains undefeated at home with three consecutive wins at the JCP. This is San Diego's fourth win of the season for a record of 4-1. The Toreros maintained a strong defense throughout the game with 36 total rebounds, six steals, and three blocks. Offensively, the team had 16 assists and two players scored in double digits. Steph Gorman was tonight's leading scorer with 17 points, 12 of those points were attributed to three-pointers. 

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Two players scored in double-digits: Steph Gorman had 17 and Ayanna Khalfani had 10.
  • The Toreros scored more points in the paint with 28 compared to Fresno State's 24.
  • San Diego shot 40% from the 3-point line with six total three-pointers; four were from Steph Gorman.
  • In the fourth quarter, the Toreros shot 64.29% from the field. 
  • San Diego had more steals than Fresno State in the first half with four compared to one. 
  • Jordyn Edwards led the Toreros in steals with three, earning half of the team's six total steals. 
    • Five games into the season, Edwards has 17 total steals.
  • Ayanna Khalfani and Sydney Hunter led the Toreros in rebounds with four each.

  • This is San Diego's second consecutive win against Fresno State (3-7 all-time) under head coach Cindy Fisher. Their last match up was in 2015 resulting in a 72-68 win at Save Mart Center.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Toreros will continue hosting the Dana on Mission Bay Holiday Tournament. On Saturday, November 27, the Toreros are set to play Nebraska at 4 PM PT. San Diego holds a 0-2 all time record against Nebraska. Their most recent match up was in 2002 and resulted in a 62-61 loss under head coach Kathy Marpe.
