USD Announces Indoor Athletics COVID-19 Protocols

SAN DIEGO - In accordance with updated health guidance from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), regarding COVID-19, the University of San Diego will require spectators (age 2 and older) in attendance for home games at the Jenny Craig Pavilion to show proof of their fully-vaccinated status or provide a negative COVID-19 test within 1 day for an antigen test and 2 days for a PCR test prior to entry. Home tests are not acceptable. This policy will be in effect for all USD men's basketball games and any other athletic event in the Jenny Craig Pavilion where expected attendance is 500 or more.

All attendees age 18 and older must also provide identification to confirm the individual presenting proof of vaccination or negative test is the attendee entering the venue.  Acceptable identification is any document that includes the name of the person and photograph.

Face coverings will be required for all individuals aged 2 or older, regardless of vaccination status, at all times unless actively eating or drinking.  Individuals who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or are under any isolation or quarantine orders are asked to not approach or enter the Jenny Craig Pavilion at any time. Fully Vaccinated Guests
People are considered fully vaccinated for COVID-19: two weeks or more after they have received the second dose in a 2-dose series (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna or other vaccine authorized by the World Health Organization), or two weeks or more after they have received a single-dose vaccine (Johnson and Johnson). The following will be considered acceptable proof of verification:
  • CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record (white card); OR
  • World Health Organization (WHO) Vaccine Record Card (yellow card); OR
  • Documentation of vaccination from the healthcare provider or entity that provided the COVID-19 vaccines; OR
  • California Immunization Registry (CAIR2) Vaccination Record; OR
  • A photo of the client's vaccine card stored on a phone or electronic device; OR
  • A Digital Vaccination Record (click here) issued by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) or an approved company e.g., Healthvana, Carbon Health, CommonPass, CLEAR Heath Pass, VaxYes
Pre-Entry Negative Testing
Testing must be conducted within 24 hours before the event start time for an antigen test or 48 hours prior for a PCR test, and results must be available prior to entry into the Jenny Craig Pavilion. The following will be considered acceptable proof of verification:
  • A printed document from the test provider or laboratory, OR
  • An electronic test result displayed on a phone or other device from the test provider or laboratory. In both cases, the information should include the person's name, type of test performed, and negative test result.
Proof of vaccination or the negative test result must be shown at a designated area near the entry of the Jenny Craig Pavilion upon arrival.

These guidelines are subject to change at the direction of the health department and are in place until further notice.

Symptom Screening
Fans must not come to the event venue if they are experiencing fever or any COVID-19 symptoms, have tested positive for COVID-19 and are under isolation orders, or have had close contact with anyone who is confirmed or suspected of having COVID-19. For a list of COVID-19 symptoms, click here.

Face Covering Requirement
Face coverings will be required for all individuals aged 2 or older, regardless of vaccination status, at all times inside the Jenny Craig Pavilion unless actively eating or drinking.  

Vaccination or Pre-Entry Test Verification
In accordance with updated health guidance from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), regarding COVID-19, the University of San Diego will require fans (age 2 and older) in attendance to show proof of their fully-vaccinated status or provide a pre-entry negative COVID-19 test result from within 24 hours of the event start time for an antigen test or 48 hours prior for a PCR test.  Additionally, all fans over the age of 18 will be required to present a photo ID along with their proof of vaccination or negative test result. 
This policy will be in effect for all USD men's basketball games and any other athletic event in the Jenny Craig Pavilion where expected attendance is 500 or more.
