SAN DIEGO -  San Diego women's tennis (5-3) came up just short against No. 17 Cal (8-2) on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-3 at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center. 

The Toreros fell behind in doubles play when Jordyn McBride and Abigail Desiatnikov were defeated 6-2 and San Diego lost the doubles point after Kati Kukaras and Victoria Kalaitzis lost 6-3. The Toreros did pick up a doubles match win however when Solymar Colling and Elizabeth Goldsmith defeated No. 40 Haley Giavara and Valentina Ivanov 6-4. 

Cal extended their lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court four, but the Toreros cut the lead to 2-1 when Desiatnikov won 6-2, 6-2 on court five. 

Cal clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win on court six and a 6-4, 6-3 win on court three. 

One major bright spot for San Diego was the continued dominant play of Solymar Colling and Elizabeth Goldsmith who both took down nationally ranked opponents in their singles matches. 

Colling won her match on court one against No. 18 Haley Giavara 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 and Goldsmith won her match on court two 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6) against No. 43 Julia Rosenqvist. 

The Toreros will be back on the court March 21 as they host Oregon. The match will begin at 10 a.m. (PT).
