SAN DIEGO — San Diego baseball (15-4, 3-1 WCC) earned its 15th win of the 2021 season on Friday evening, taking down conference foe Pacific 7-12, (0-4 WCC) by a 3-1 margin at Fowler Park.
The Toreros were able to answer after the Tigers plated an unearned run in the top of the second, tying the game at one in the bottom of the third via graduate student
Paul Kunst's first home run of the year.
Sophomore
Cody Jefferis gave USD its first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single to center field to score
Angelo Peraza, then true freshman
Dustin Allen ripped an RBI double down the left field line an inning later to plate Kunst and expand the San Diego lead to 3-1.
Jefferis paced the offense with a 3-4 performance at the dish, and Allen went 2-3 on the evening to record a multi-hit game of his own in his first college start.
Sophomore
Jake Miller started the game on the mound for USD and enjoyed a strong outing, allowing just one unearned run across 4.2 innings pitched while matching his career high of 10 strikeouts.
Miller was relieved by a three-reliever trio out of the Torero bullpen that combined for 4.1 scoreless innings while allowing only one hit. Redshirt sophomore
Ryan Robinson went first, throwing 1.1 frames, and was followed by true freshman
Ivran Romero and graduate student
Kieran Shaw, who threw 0.2 and 2.1 run-free frames, respectively, to finalize the 3-1 victory for San Diego that marked its 15th win in its last 17 games. Robinson receIved the win for Friday night's contest, moving his record to 2-0, and Shaw recorded his third save of the season.
The series continues tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. at Fowler Park.
