Portland Slips Past Toreros

San Diego fell to the Pilots on Saturday afternoon

SAN DIEGO - San Diego women's soccer (1-6, 1-4 WCC) fell to Portland (3-2-2, 2-2-2 WCC) 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in Torero Stadium.

The Pilots took the lead in the second minute, but the Toreros shut down the Portland attack for the rest of the half to keep within striking distance.

The Toreros faced a three goal deficit after the Pilots tacked on two more in the middle of the second half.

The best chance for the Toreros came in the 76th minute as freshman forward Lexi Kaz cut in from the left side of the box and took a curling shot that bruised the crossbar.

Sophomore Eden Quiroz also had an opportunity in the 77th minute. With a ball bouncing around the box, Quiroz fired a right-footed shot that was saved by the Portland keeper. She led the team with three shots in the match.

The Toreros totaled eleven shots in the match, with four on target.

San Diego will travel to Malibu next Saturday, April 3 to take on the No. 24 Pepperdine Waves. The match is scheduled to begin at noon (PT).
