LAS VEGAS—San Diego fell 67-51 to San Francisco in the opening round of the 2020-21 UCU WCC Tournament at the Orleans Arena on Thursday evening.
 
The Toreros (3-11, 2-7 WCC) had two players score in double figures, led by Finn Sullivan, who had 12 points and four assists. Josh Parrish added 11 points, while Joey Calcaterra and Yauhen Massalski chipped in eight points. Massalski also tallied 11 rebounds and three blocks.
 
It was a tough day from the field for USD who shot 33 percent, compared to 45 percent for the Dons (11-13, 4-9 WCC). USF held a slight rebounding advantage 38-35, while the Toreros held the advantage in the paint 30-28.
 
The Dons took an early 7-0 lead before USD battled to pull within one, 7-8. USF then went on a 21-4 run to take a commanding, 29-11 lead with under five minutes in the half. The Toreros put together a small run to close out the period but still went into the halftime break trailing, 30-17.
 
San Francisco kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 58-34 advantage before San Diego went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Parrish's layup, to make it, 58-42 with 4:40 to go in the contest. The Toreros were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, falling 67-51.
