Toreros Set to Face St. Mary’s

San Diego looks to build off strong performance versus Pacific

SAN DIEGO - San Diego men's soccer (1-1-0, 1-0-0 WCC) will look to pick up their first home win of the season on March 5 as they face St. Mary's (2-0-0,) at 1:00 p.m. (PT) at Torero Stadium. 

Scouting the Gaels

  • All time, the Toreros are 13-8-6 against St. Mary's and are 8-3-3 against the Gales at Torero Stadium. St. Mary's won the last matchup 3-0 on October 20, 2019.
  • The Gales are coming off a 2-0 win versus Santa Clara on Feb 21.  St. Mary's won the match despite being outshot 10-4 by Santa Clara.  

Last Time Out 
  • The Toreros picked up their first win of the season on Feb 28 with a 2-1 road win over Pacifc. 
  • After falling behind 1-0 on a Pacifc penalty right at the end of the first half, junior Alex Churness led the Toreros back with an incredible second half brace. Both goals were assisted by freshman Ross Johnstone.
  • Churness two goal performance earned him WCC Offensive Player of the Week honors from the conference.
