Toreros Battle Broncos in Season Finale

San Diego falls on senior day against Santa Clara

SAN DIEGO - San Diego men's soccer (3-3-2, 3-2-2 WCC) lost to Santa Clara (4-3, 4-4 WCC) 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in Torero Stadium.

Prior to the match, the Toreros honored seven seniors in their final home game of the season: Pedro Andrade, Amit Hefer, Aaron Frey, Paul Ramlow, Ross Meldrum, Aidan Marmion, and Matt Wiher.

The Broncos broke through first in the 27th minute and refused to relinquish their lead.

San Diego had a scoring opportunity in the 59th minute when junior Alex Churness was fouled just outside the box. The ball fell nicely to freshman Ross Johnstone who ripped a shot that was saved by the Broncos keeper. Junior Michael Barrow then stepped up to take the free kick and was denied by the visitors' wall.

Junior Till Stockmann provided good width throughout the match, and provided one of the best chances on the afternoon for the Toreros. In the 78th minute, Stockman picked up the ball on the left side of the pitch, took a couple dribbles and then fired a shot from 20 yards that left the goalkeeper lunging but went just wide.

The Toreros finished the regular season tied for fifth in the WCC with San Francisco.
