Toreros Fall to Titans

San Diego drops 3-1 decision at Goodwin Field

FULLERTON, CALIF. — San Diego baseball (18-5, 5-1 WCC) dropped a 3-1 decision to Cal State Fullerton (10-13, 5-3 Big West) at Goodwin Field on Friday evening, snapping a six-game win streak for the Toreros.

The Titans struck first in the game, plating an unearned run off of starting pitcher Brycen Mautz in the bottom of the first inning.

San Diego trailed by a single run until the top of the seventh, when graduate student Paul Kunst singled up the middle to plate true freshman Jack Costello and tie the game at one.

CSUF delivered the contest's decisive blow when Zach Lew drove in two with an RBI triple in the bottom of the eighth.

Carter Rustad turned in the most impressive pitching performance of the night for USD, throwing 3.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. True freshman Dustin Allen led the offense with two hits and was one of five San Diego players to record a hit on Friday.

The Toreros return to action tomorrow evening at Fowler Park against the Titans. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. and the game is set to be televised nationally on ESPNU.
