NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - San Diego softball (10-26, 2-7 WCC) came up just shy against CSUN (5-15, 3-15 Big West) on Wednesday afternoon on the road in double header action. Game one saw the Toreros fall in extra innings, before CSUN took game two by two runs.

GAME 1 | San Diego 3, CSUN 4 (8 Inn.)
The Toreros pushed CSUN to extra innings in game one, but fell 4-3 in an eight-inning battle in game one as Courtney Rose (1-9) took the loss in the circle for San Diego.

McKenna Braegelmann started the ballgame and went five innings, surrendering one run on four hits, walking one and striking out two.

AJ Kaiser led the way offensively for the Toreros, going 1-for-3 with a solo home run and an RBI. Freshman Amanda Limon compiled a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Halle Kyler also chipped in, going 1-for-3 for San Diego with a triple.

The Toreros struck first in game one, as Kaiser put San Diego on the board with a leadoff home run in the top of the second.

The defense then held the Matadors scoreless before expanding their lead in the fifth inning. Kyler came across to score the lone run of the inning for San Diego, which brought the score to 2-0 in favor of the Toreros.

CSUN fought back to tie the ballgame at two before San Diego reclaimed a 3-2 advantage in the top of eighth inning. Limon came through with Hayley Hensley on third, laying down an RBI suicide squeeze to put San Diego in front. Â The Matadors then responded in the bottom half of the inning to nab the 4-3 win.

GAME 2 | San Diego 3, CSUN 5
San Diego got off to a hot start offensively in game two, but could not hold onto the advantage as the Toreros fell 5-3 in game two.

Junior Madison Earnshaw (3-12) got the ball to start for San Diego and took the loss. Rose was a bright spot for the Toreros, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.

In the batter's box, the Toreros were paced by Limon, who went 2-for-4 in game two. Rion Simms put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4. Kyler also helped out for San Diego, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

The Toreros got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning as Kyler and Sofia Delgado came through with hard ground balls after San Diego loaded the bases.
San Diego was able to keep CSUN at bay until the third when the Matadors took the lead to have USD trailing 3-2.

Savannah Alarcon answered with a RBI single to tie things at three apiece in the top of the fourth. Â CSUN then scored two times over the remaining three innings to break the tie and grab the 5-3 win.

San Diego is back in action on Saturday, May 1 with its final home WCC series against Santa Clara. First pitch is set for noon (PT).
