MORAGA, Calif. - San Diego softball (12-29, 4-10 WCC) split opening action against Saint Mary's (12-21, 3-5 WCC) on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Toreros took game one 3-0, before falling 1-0 in an extra innings battle in game two.

Earnshaw was dealing on Saturday, throwing a five-hit shutout to lead the Toreros past Saint Mary's 3-0 in game one.

Earnshaw (4-13) went the distance for San Diego, giving up five hits, walking none and striking out five. The veteran limited Saint Mary's to just 1-for-5 (.200) with runners in scoring position.

In the batter's box, the Toreros were led by freshman
Sofia Delgado, who went 1-for-2 in the contest with a double, a walk and an RBI.

San Diego struck early in the top of the second as
Lauren Hendrickson and Delgado got aboard with lead off walks before
Hayley Hensley came through with a ground ball to the right side to score Hendrickson.

The Toreros stayed in control with a 1-0 lead through the sixth inning. San Diego then capitalized in the top of the seventh, tacking on two insurance runs. Hendrickson served as the spark plug with a leadoff single.
Savannah Alarcon then scored from first on a double in the gap by Delgado to make it 2-0 Toreros.

AJ Kaiser then came through on a pinch hit with a hard ground ball to third to score Delgado to secure the 3-0 victory.

Game two brought a pitchers' duel as San Diego fell 1-0 in an extra innings battle to tie the series at one.

Katlin Entrup (1-5) took the loss in the circle, going 3.1 innings in relief, giving up one run on one hit, allowing one walk and striking out two.
McKenna Braegelmann started the ballgame and threw four shutout innings while allowing just one hit, walking five and striking out three.

Malia Benson led the way offensively for the Toreros, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame.

San Diego's offense nearly broke through the defensive battle in the top of the sixth as Benson made it 60 feet away with only one out. The Gaels retired the side to keep the score at zero.
Entrup held Saint Mary's in the bottom of the seventh to push the game into extras.
Clareese Santiago and
Amanda Limon managed solid contact in the eighth but couldn't break through as the Toreros were retired in order.
