FULL SCHEDULE
 
SAN DIEGO—San Diego volleyball head coach Jennifer Petrie announced the Toreros' nonconference slate to complete the fall 2021 schedule. USD previously announced its WCC schedule earlier this month.
 
The Toreros will begin the season with a challenging nine-match nonconference schedule that includes three tournaments, three opponents that competed in the spring 2021 NCAA Tournament and eight matches on the road.
 
USD will open up the season at NCAA Finals contender Texas on Aug. 27. The Longhorns came in the NCAA Tournament as the No. 4 seed, falling to No. 2 Kentucky in the finals, 3-1. The Toreros will remain in Austin to face UTSA (Aug. 28) in a neutral match.
 
Next up, the Toreros will travel to Salt Lake City for a three-match tournament hosted by Utah. USD will take on the host Utes in the first of two matches on Sept. 3, before facing Hawaii in the evening match that same day. San Diego will close out the round-robin tournament against Cal Poly on Sept. 4.
 
No. 14 Utah was upset in the second round of the NCAA Tournament by Pitt last spring, 3-0. Hawaii, which opted out of the spring 2021 season along with the rest of the Big West, advanced to the Regional Semifinals after defeating USD 3-1 in the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
 
The Toreros will return to San Diego for their first home match, cohosting a three-team tournament with San Diego State. USD will play host to UCLA in its home opener on Sept. 9. The Bruins were eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season by BYU, 3-0.
 
San Diego will then travel across town to take on the Aztecs on Sept. 11 at SDSU. This will be the first meeting for the two teams since long-time USD associate head coach Brent Hilliard took over the SDSU program in 2020.
 
The Toreros will wrap up their nonconference slate against USC (Sept. 17) in Los Angeles before traveling to face Long Beach State the following night (Sept. 18).
 
The Toreros return 11 letterwinners, who all saw extensive time on the court in the unique spring 2021 season. USD also adds four incoming freshmen and one sophomore transfer to Petrie's squad that finished 13-5 last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
 
Annie Benbow, Gabby Goddard, Katie Lukes, Laura Madill, Camryn Tastad and Lauren Turner represent the senior class.
