Broncos Play Host to Toreros in WCC Opener

SAN DIEGO—San Diego women's soccer opens up West Coast Conference play this weekend against the defending national champion Santa Clara Broncos. The match will take place at 1 p.m. (PT) Saturday at Stevens Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

The Toreros (5-4, 0-0 WCC) are coming off a gritty home win last time out against the Denver Pioneers in their final nonconference matchup. Ariana Scholten tapped home a 78th minute winner to send the Torero faithful into a frenzy last Saturday night.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST SANTA CLARA
• Saturday will be the 18th meeting all-time with the Toreros holding a 6-11 record against the Broncos. The Broncos have won the previous three matchups including the last two in Santa Clara. 

• San Diego is 2-7 on the road against the Broncos all-time. 

LAST TIME OUT
• San Diego defeated Denver 2-1 last week in their only match.

• Scholten scored her first collegiate goal in the 78th minute, which ended up being the game winner.

Michaela Foster continues to anchor the Toreros, scoring a penalty as well as clearing a ball off the line to cement the San Diego victory.

• San Diego plays host to Pepperdine next Wednesday, before traveling to Provo to take on BYU on Saturday.
