Toreros Travel to Loyola Marymount for Thursday Matchup

San Diego eager to build on #3 WCC ranking

LOS ANGELES —The Toreros will travel to Los Angeles to play Loyola Marymount on Thursday, January 13 at 7 p.m. PT. Coming off a 10-point win against San Francisco, the Toreros look to continue their winning streak. San Diego (9-4) is currently ranked third in the WCC conference behind Gonzaga (10-4) in second place, and BYU (12-1) in first.

THE BREAKDOWN
In their thirteenth game of the season, San Diego defeated San Francisco 65-56 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Kiera Oakry and Sydney Hunter were explosive on the floor and set new personal records. Kiera Oakry led the Toreros in scoring and set career highs of 22 points and eight rebounds. Oakry shot 7-11 from the field, 6-7 at the three-point line, and went 2-2 at the free throw line. Oakry made six of the team's nine three-pointers against San Francisco. Sydney Hunter earned her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Hunter surpassed her previous double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds against San Diego State on December 1. Hunter leads the Toreros in rebounds averaging 5.7 per game. 

Other top scorers were Jordyn Edwards with 13 points, Hunter with 11, and Kendall Bird with eight. On defense, San Diego was aggressive at the rim totaling to 45 rebounds. Hunter led the Toreros in rebounds with 12, followed by Oakry with eight, Bird had six, and Kasey Neubert had five. San Diego also tallied nine steals over San Francisco. Leading the Toreros in steals were Edwards and Hunter with three each.

The Toreros are 9-4 (1-0 WCC) ahead of Thursday's match-up against LMU 5-6 (0-1 WCC). This is the 80th time the teams will play each other in program history.

San Diego holds a 49-31 all time record against LMU with a winning streak of four. Their last match-up took place on February 8, 2020 and resulted in a 74-64 win under head coach Cindy Fisher.
