SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's soccer program (2-7-3, 0-2 WCC) battled through a back-and-forth affair, but ultimately fell, 2-0, to No. 15 Portland (8-0-4, 2-0 WCC) on Wednesday night at Torero Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Much like the contest against No. 17 Pepperdine, the Toreros were able to hold the No. 15 Pilots in check with a scoreless opening frame.
- The Torero defense limited the Pilots to just one shot on goal in the opening frame.
- In the second half, the Pilots were finally able to break through in the 47th minute on a rebound goal by Cally Togiai to make it 1-0.
- San Diego nearly equalized the game in the 58th minute, when Sara Evans and Cameryn Maddox connected on a beautiful passing play, that ended with a shot on goal by Maddox and a save from Pilots goalkeeper Bre Norris.
- The Pilots were able to secure a second tally with another ball that got loose in the box and was scored by Ruby Settle.
