SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's soccer program (2-8-3, 0-3 WCC) delivered an active offensive attack, but dropped a 2-0 decision to Gonzaga (7-2-3, 2-0-1 WCC) on Saturday night at Torero Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both sides found chances early and often in the game, as the Zags finished with a 11-5 lead in shots through the first half.
- Gonzaga would be the first to strike in the 33rd minute, as Lauren Elwer fed Willow Collins to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
- Right out of the gate in the second half, freshman Cameryn Maddox nearly equalized the game with a blast outside the box that forced Gonzaga goalkeeper Lyza Bosselmann to make a diving save to her left.
- However, Hannah Gray extended the lead for the Zags in the 55th minute with a strike of her own from outside the box.
- Midfielder Laney Steed almost answered on the first shot after the goal, after a strong passing play resulted in a chance in tight that went just left of the post.
- Freshman Leila Kahoano nearly got a goal back in the 77th minute, as her corner kick found the inside of the right post, but stayed out.
- Both sides registered eight shots apiece in the second half.
