Women’s Soccer Welcomes No. 15 BYU in Home Finale

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's soccer program (2-10-5, 0-5-2 WCC) are set to wrap up the 2022 home schedule on Wednesday, facing off against No. 15 BYU (8-2-6, 4-0-3 WCC) at 7 p.m., in Torero Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT
The Toreros picked up their second consecutive draw, matching San Francisco stride-for-stride in a 0-0 senior day clash on Oct. 29. Freshman Sophine Kevorkian was stellar in net once again, making six saves, including one in the dying seconds off the goal line to preserve the draw.  The Toreros set a new season high in shots with 18, but were unable to break through, as a ball off the post from Cameryn Maddox was the closest of the day.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • San Diego trails in the all-time series, 3-11-0 and are seeking their first win over the Cougars since 2017.
  • The Toreros are 119-104-10 (.533) all-time in WCC play dating back to 1992.
  • The Toreros have registered points in back-to-back WCC games for the first time since Nov. 6 and 8, 2019 against Pacific and Portland.
  • 21 of the 37 points (56.8%) tallied by the Toreros this season have come from a freshman. Maddox (eight), Josefine Schlichting (four) and Leila Kahoano (four) are the leaders for the Toreros.
  • Kevorkian has moved into the single season record books at San Diego and is approaching a new single season record in total saves. She currently sits in a tie for ninth place with Whitney Persons (1997) with 86 saves.
  • The single season record holder is Amber Michel (95 in 2017). Kevorkian would need to average 5.0 saves per game in the final two games to set a new record.

TORERO TIDBITS
  • Kevorkian currently leads the West Coast Conference in total minutes played (1463:54), while ranking second in total saves (86) and saves per game (5.06). Kevorkian also ranks in the top-50 nationally in total saves.
  • Between Kevorkian and Ellyn Casto, the Toreros lead the WCC in team saves per game (5.59) and rank 46th in the NCAA.
  • The next tie by Kevorkian in net would set a new single season record by a goalkeeper at San Diego with five, passing Libby Bassett in 2003.
