Softball Inks No. 43 Ranked Class on National Signing Day

SAN DIEGO – Head Coach MJ Knighten has announced the signing of five players to National Letters of Intent, to join the program in the fall of 2023.
 
Joining the program next season are Kaitlyn Bartlow (Westlake Village, Calif.), Janae Combs (Vista, Calif.), Michelle Delgado (Santa Ana, Calif.), Tele Jennings (San Pedro, Calif.) and Kaitlyn Wynia (Torrance, Calif.). The class has been rated as the No. 43 class in the nation, according to Extra Innings Softball.
 
"The one word I would describe this signing class as is determined," said Knighten. "Since the moment they have verbally committed to being a Torero, they believed and watched the growth of this program. With every interaction, I can tell they are itching to make an impact once the uniform is on. They are determined to keep USD softball heading in the right direction and I can't wait to get them on campus next fall."
 
KAITLYN BARTLOW
Position: Pitcher
Height: 5'10"
Hometown/High School: Westlake Village, Calif. / Westlake HS
Career Highlights:
  • Bartlow was the 2022 Maramounte League Pitcher of the Year and was named to the All-Maramounte League first team.
  • Bartlow helped Westlake win the 2021 Maramounte League title and finish as the runner-up in CIF SS Division I.
  • Outside of Westlake, Bartlow played club softball for Firecrackers Brashear under head coach Sean Brashear.
  • With Firecrackers Brashear, Bartlow was the winning pitcher in the 2022 Alliance Nationals quarterfinal.
Other Notes:
  • Bartlow is a three-time Scholar Athlete Award winner, including this past year with a 4.6 GPA.
 
JANAE COMBS
Position: Third Base/Catcher
Height: 5'8"
Hometown/High School: Vista, Calif. / Rancho Buena Vista HS
Career Highlights:
  • Combs was named the 2022 Most Valuable Player in her conference and tabbed as a first team All-League honoree.
  • During her sophomore year, Combs was the 2021 Offensive MVP and was named second team All-League.
  • Combs helped Rancho Buena Vista and head coach Theresa Murillo finish as Open CIF runners-up in 2021.
  • Combs led her team in home runs, RBI and batting average during her junior season, while leading the league in home runs as a junior.
  • Combs played club softball for Breakers Labs Gold under head coach Bobby Labs.
Other Notes:
  • Combs is rated as the No. 46 prospect in the nation, according to Extra Innings Softball.
  • In the classroom, Combs was named to the Honor Roll every year of high school.
 
MICHELLE DELGADO
Position: Infield
Height: 5'5"
Hometown/High School: Santa Ana, Calif. / Segerstrom HS
Career Highlights:
  • Delgado was named a first team All-Golden West League honoree as a junior.
  • Delgado was named the 2022 MVP of Character at Segerstrom, while also serving as the team captain.
  • The Santa Ana native played her club softball with the BSC Bengals – Briggs U18's under head coach Ken Briggs.
Outside of Softball:
  • Delgado is rated as the No. 20 prospect in the nation, according to Extra Innings Softball.
  • In 2021, Delgado was ranked No. 25 in the nation and No. 19 among middle infielders by Extra Innings Softball.
 
TELE JENNINGS
Position: Outfield
Height: 5'10"
Hometown/High School: San Pedro, Calif. / Mary Star of the Sea HS
Career Highlights:
  • Jennings was named the Most Valuable Offensive Player in her conference, while also being tabbed second team All-Conference as a junior.
  • As a junior, Jennings hit .390 with 14 home runs.
  • Jennings also played club softball for Orange County Batbusters under head coach Mike Stith.
Other Notes:
  • Jennings is the younger sister of star collegiate softball player Tiare Jennings, who is a two-time national champion, two-time unanimous first team All-American and the 2021 NFCA Freshman of the Year at Oklahoma.
  • In addition, her cousin Keiliani Jennings played softball at UC Santa Barbara where she was an All-Big West honoree. Her cousins Keanu and Andre Hill also played collegiate sports, playing football at Tulsa and Azuza Pacific, respectively.
  • Jennings has been standout student as well, being named to the principal's honor roll, California Scholarship Federation, National Honors Society and Summa Cum Laude.
  • Outside of softball, Jennings played volleyball, soccer and basketball.
 
KAITLYN WYNIA
Position: Outfield
Height: 5'6"
Hometown/High School: Torrance, Calif. / Torrance HS
Career Highlights:
  • One of Torrance High School's top players, Wynia is a two-year captain and the school record holder in single season hits (54) and RBIs (36).
  • Wynia is a first team All-Conference honoree who was named the Best Offensive Player her sophomore and junior years, while being tabbed as the All-Region High School Outfielder of the Year as a junior.
  • In addition, Wynia was named to the Daily Breeze All-Area teams the past two seasons.
  • As a junior, Wynia has led the team in batting average, hits, doubles, triples and RBI while hitting .449 overall.
  • Wynia played her club softball for Corona Angles Tyson under head coach Marty Tyson.
Other Notes:
  • Wynia's uncle is former Major League Baseball pitcher Chad Qualls, while her mother, Kim, played softball as a pitcher at Loyola Marymount. Her sister Tana plays soccer at El Camino College.
  • Wynia is a longtime volleyball player, who helped Torrance win a CIF championship her junior year. Wynia also holds a black belt in taekwondo.
