SAN DIEGO — A historic group of San Diego seniors set forth a fitting performance in their final regular-season home match as Toreros on Saturday afternoon, leading No. 2 USD volleyball (24-1, 15-0 WCC) to a 3-0 Senior Day win over Pacific (13-13, 5-9 WCC) at the Jenny Craig Pavilion that marked the team's 21st consecutive victory and 13th straight sweep.
The Toreros took the first set 25-18, cruised to a 25-12 win in the second, and pulled away late for a 25-20 win in the third to take down the Tigers in straight sets.
Graduate outside hitter Breana Edwards, graduate setter Gabby Blossom, redshirt senior middle blocker Gabby Goddard, senior opposite/setter Grace Frohling, redshirt senior libero Annie Benbow, and redshirt senior outside hitter Katie Lukes were honored prior to the match in an on-court ceremony.
Edwards led the contest with 13 kills while hitting a remarkable .632, helping USD out-hit Pacific .203 to -.041 as they out-blocked the Tigers 18.0 to 3.0.
The victory moved San Diego's final 2022 regular-season home record to 14-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set - No. 2 San Diego, 25-18
- Saturday's first set featured ten tie scores and five lead changes, the majority of which coming in the frame's early stages as the match got underway.
- The final tie came at 14-14 before an attack error from the Tigers gave USD a 15-14 lead it would not relinquish.
- Edwards and Lukes followed with kills to expand the San Diego advantage, forcing a Pacific timeout.
- Another kill from Edwards, a handful of Tiger errors, and a pair of kills from Frohling came next to seal a 25-18 win for the Toreros in set one, pushing San Diego ahead 1-0 over Pacific in the match.

- Edwards: Six kills (.750) and a block assist
- Frohling: Three kills (.400), one dig, and two block assists
- Lukes: Two kills (.200), one assist, two digs, and three block assists

Second Set - No. 2 San Diego, 25-12
- USD took control far earlier in Saturday afternoon's second set, snapping a 4-4 tie on a kill from Edwards before nine Pacific errors, two service aces from Blossom, and a kill from Blackwell allowed the Toreros to take a commanding 16-5 lead.
- Another kill from Blackwell put USD up by 12 at 19-7, then a flurry of Tiger errors secured San Diego a dominant 25-12 victory in set two, putting it up 2-0 in the match over Pacific.
Second Set Notables:
- Edwards: Two kills (1.000) and a block assist
- Blackwell: Two kills (.250) and four block assists
- Lukes: One kill (.000), two digs, and one block assist
- Blossom: Five assists, two service aces, and one dig

Third Set - No. 2 San Diego, 25-20
- The Toreros again battled back-and-forth with the Tigers early on in set three, but they again found a way to pull ahead midway through.
- A 10-10 tie was snapped by a pair of Pacific errors that put USD up 12-10, then Blossom expanded that advantage with a service ace.
- Edwards followed a couple points later with a kill, and San Diego was up 16-11.
- The Tigers pulled within two down the stretch at 19-17, but USD regrouped out of a timeout and finished on a 4-0 run to take the set 25-10 and sweep Pacific 3-0.
Third Set Notables:
- Edwards: Five kills (.444), one solo block, and one block assist
- Blackwell: Two kills (.667), and three block assists
- Blossom: Six assists, two service aces, and one kill
- Stoner: Two block assists
- Benbow: Two digs
- Junior libero Madi Allen: One dig
TORERO TIDBITS
- Edwards led the match with 13 kills while hitting .632, also adding a solo block and three block assists.
- Blackwell was next with four kills of her own while hitting .182, tying her career high with 11 total blocks.
- Frohling had three kills (.000) to go with a dig and seven block assists.
- Lukes also had three kills (-.125), notching two assists, six block assists, and six digs, which was just one short of the match high.
- Goddard contributed one kill while hitting .500 to go with two block assists.
- Blossom set forth 18 assists, a match-high four service aces that tied her season-high, three digs, and a kill.
- Stoner chipped in three block assists and a dig.
- Benbow notched seven digs on Saturday afternoon, putting her just 14 digs away from passing Hunter Jennings' San Diego-record total of 1,489 (2013-2016) to become USD's all-time digs leader.
- Freshman libero/defensive specialist Olivia Bennett totaled two digs, and Allen had a dig, a service ace, and an assist.
- The Toreros have now won 21 straight matches and have swept 13 matches in a row.
- Their final 2022 regular-season home record sits at 14-0.
