Women’s Soccer Drops Home Finale to No. 15 BYU

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's soccer program (2-11-5, 0-6-2 WCC) dropped a 6-0 decision to No. 15 BYU (9-2-6, 5-0-3 WCC) in the 2022 home finale on Wednesday night at Torero Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Toreros and Cougars opened the game with a flurry of shots, but the Cougars were the first to strike.
  • BYU would score five times in the first half, as the Cougars led in total shots 21-4 through the first 45 minutes.
  • Despite the shot disparity, the four shots proved to be quality looks, as a blast from Cameryn Maddox in the 16th minute was a headliner but was stopped by the Cougars goalkeeper.
  • Later in the contest, Talei Moodie nearly had her first collegiate goal, breaking past the Cougars defense and scoring, but only after the offside flag was raised.
  • The Toreros and Cougars played a much tighter second half, with the Cougars leading 20-9 in second half shots.

TORERO TIDBITS
  • Graduate student Adalee Broadbent played another full 90 minutes, bringing her to 2,181 consecutive minutes played.
  • Senior Eden Quiroz crossed the 5,000 minutes played threshold at San Diego during the match.
  • Kevorkian continued her rise through the top-10 of the Toreros single season save list, moving into a tie for sixth with Michelle Craft (2013). The San Diego native is six saves away from setting a new single season record, with Amber Michel (91 in 2018) next on the list.
  • Senior goalkeeper Ellyn Casto made nine saves after coming on in the second half.
