Haylee Stoner Named WCC Defensive Player of the Week

Sophomore earns honor for second time this season, is one of WCC-best nine USD selections in 2022

SAN MATEO, Calif. — Sophomore middle blocker Haylee Stoner punctuated an incredible week for No. 2 San Diego volleyball with her second WCC Defensive Player of the Week selection of the season, the West Coast Conference announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Stoner, who had previously earned the honor on September 26, is one of a conference-best nine WCC Player of the Week selections for San Diego in 2022. Her selection marks the second consecutive week that a Torero has gotten the conference's weekly defensive nod after junior middle blocker Leyla Blackwell was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week on November 21.

The San Marcos, California native (Mission Hills High School) tallied a team-high 16 blocks across two wins at Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine. She notched five total blocks (1.00 B/S) in USD's 3-2 win over the Lions, then erupted to tie her career-high with 11 total blocks (three solo, 2.75 B/S) in the Toreros' 3-1 victory over the Waves, which clinched San Diego its 12th West Coast Conference Championship. She added five kills and eight points in USD's 3-1 win at BYU to close out the regular season.

Stoner and the Toreros will await their postseason fate during the NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship Selection Show on November 27. The program will be broadcast live on ESPNU and is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. PST.
