LAST TIME OUT
In the first game of the 2022-23 season, USD defeated Sonoma State, 81-59. Steve Lavin earned his first win after being named head coach in April, as the Toreros forced 20 turnovers and got points from 10 different players. Sigu Sisoho Jawara led the team with 17 points in his USD debut, shooting 7-of-13 from the floor and 3-of-7 from long range. Jase Townsend added 16 points in the win, drilling three of his four three-point attempts. Both players added five assists each. Last year's leading scorer Marcellus Earlington registered a double-double, totaling 14 points (6-6 FT) and 10 rebounds. Eric Williams Jr. narrowly missed a double-double of his own, ending with 11 points, nine rebounds, and four steals in the contest.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
FGCU opened the season and the Pat Chambers era Monday night with a 74-61 win at USC. In the win, newcomers Chase Johnston, Isaiah Thompson, and Dahmir Bishop all scored in double figures led by Johnston's 20 points. Bishop also added seven rebounds, two blocks, and two steals while veteran Zach Anderson grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. The Eagles were selected fourth in the ASUN Preseason Coaches' Poll.
