Toreros Host Pacific for Pink Night

San Diego is excited to support a great cause and continue three game winning streak

SAN DIEGO—The Toreros will host the Pacific Tigers at the Jenny Craig Pavilion on Thursday, February 17 at 6 p.m. PT on Pink Night. 

Women's Basketball is hosting Pink Night to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. The team has partnered with Kay Yow Cancer Fund to encourage fans to learn more about this important cause and help fund research initiatives carried out by the organization. Coming off a 10-point win against Pepperdine on Saturday, San Diego is ready to continue their three game winning streak. 

THE BREAKDOWN
In their twenty-fifth game of the 2021-22 regular season, San Diego defeated Pepperdine 63-53 at Firestone Fieldhouse on Saturday, February 12. Sydney Hunter led the team in scoring and recorded her third consecutive game scoring over 21 points. Hunter scored 22 points followed by Steph Gorman with eight and Kendall Bird with seven. Overall, the Toreros shot 88.9% from the free throw line, 40.7% from the field, and 20% from the three-point line.

On defense, the Toreros collected 32 rebounds and 12 steals. Leading the team's rebounding efforts were Jordyn Edwards and Kiera Oakry with five rebounds each. Under the basket, Kendall Bird and Kasey Neubert defended the rim with one block each. On the other side of the court, Erica Martinsen and Jordyn Edwards led the team in steals with three each. 

The Toreros are 13-12 (5-8 WCC) ahead of Saturday's matchup against Pacific 6-18 (3-10 WCC). This is the 30th time the teams will play each other in program history.
  
LOOKING AHEAD
The Toreros travel to Moraga, CA to play Saint Mary's on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 1 p.m. PT. San Diego holds a 21-45 all time record against Saint Mary's with a one game winning streak. Their last match up took place on February 11, 2021 and resulted in a 82-73 win under head coach Cindy Fisher.
