Women's Basketball Travels to Saint Mary's for Saturday Contest

San Diego looks to continue four game winning streak

MORAGA—The Toreros will travel to Moraga, CA to play Saint Mary's on Saturday, February 19 at 1 p.m. PT. 

The Toreros are 14-12 (6-8 WCC) ahead of Saturday's matchup against Saint Mary's 12-13 (6-8 WCC). This is a crucial game which will help solidify seating in the WCC Tournament. Currently, San Diego ranks sixth and Saint Mary's is seventh in the WCC standings. This is the 67th time the teams will match up. Their last contest took place on January 20, 2022 and resulted in a 79-71 loss in the Jenny Craig Pavilion. 

THE BREAKDOWN
In their twenty-sixth game of the 2021-22 regular season, San Diego defeated Pacific 80-87 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion on Thursday, February 17. Leading the Toreros in scoring was Steph Gorman with 23 points and marked a new career high. Following Gorman was Sydney Hunter with 17 points and Kiera Oakry with 14 points. Overall, the Toreros shot 71.4% from the free throw line, 40.3% from the field, and 19.2% from the three-point line. 

On defense, San Diego collected 39 rebounds and nine steals. Sydney Hunter recorded her fifth double-double of the season after grabbing 11 rebounds and scoring 17 points. 

LOOKING AHEAD
The Toreros continue traveling to Portland to battle the Pilots on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 7 p.m. San Diego holds a 45-34 all time record with a losing streak of one. Their last contest took place on January 27, 2022 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion and resulted in a 68-55 loss under head coach Cindy Fisher.
