MORAGA — The Toreros came up short to the Saint Mary's Gaels, 79-67, in McKeon Pavilion on Saturday, February 19.

Three toreros scored in double-digits leading with Jordyn Edwards with 16 points, Steph Gorman with 12, and Sydney Hunter with 10. Other key contributors on offense included Kiera Oakry and Laura Erikstrup with eight points each. Collectively, San Diego scored 16 points off the bench, 26 points in the paint, and made 14 second chance points. The Toreros also tallied 11 assists. 

On defense, San Diego collected 41 rebounds, 11 steals, and had four blocks. The Toreros also forced 14 turnovers on the Gaels. For the third consecutive game, Jordyn Edwards led the team in steals with three. 

WHAT HAPPENED

• Sydney Hunter scored the first two points of the game with a drive to the hoop.
• The Toreros are off to a strong offensive start with Kiera Oakry and Steph Gorman hitting three-pointers on back to back possessions. 
• San Diego shot 2-4 at the three point line in the first quarter. Kiera Oakry and Steph Gorman knocked down two for the Toreros.
• The Toreros out rebounded the Gaels nine to six in the second quarter.
• Jordyn Edwards hit a deep three-point shot at the buzzer to create a five point deficit to close the first half.
• San Diego had two blocks in the third quarter. 
• The Toreros snagged five steals in the fourth quarter.

The Toreros continue traveling to Portland to battle the Pilots on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 7 p.m. San Diego holds a 45-34 all time record with a losing streak of one. Their last contest took place on January 27, 2022 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion and resulted in a 68-55 loss under head coach Cindy Fisher.
