Women's Basketball Overcomes Deficit to Defeat Pacific; 81-77

Sydney Hunter set a new career high of 29 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Box Score STOCKTON —The Toreros overcame an eight-point deficit to defeat the Pacific Tigers 81-77 at Alex G. Spanos Center.

Sydney Hunter recorded her third double-double of the season and set a new career high of 29 points and 14 rebounds. The last time she accomplished a double-double was against San Francisco on January 8 where she tallied 11 points and 12 rebounds. Hunter had her best offensive performance of her career and shot 7-12 from the field, 100% from the three-point line, and 14-17 from the free-throw line. 

Also leading the Toreros' offensive efforts in double-digit scoring was Kiera Oakry with 15 points and Steph Gorman with 14 points. Another key contributor on offense was Kasey Neubert with six points. Collectively, the Toreros tallied 13 assists. 

On defense, San Diego collected 36 rebounds and nine steals. The Toreros also forced 19 turnovers on the Tigers. Sydney Hunter and Steph Gorman led the team in steals with three each. 

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Sydney Hunter drives and scores the team's first three points with a layup and free throw opportunity off a foul. 
  • Kiera Oakry shot 100% from the three-point line going 2-2 in the first quarter.
  • San Diego had two steals in the second quarter from Erica Martinsen and Sydney Hunter.
  • The Toreros shot 70.6% from the field making 12-17 baskets in the third quarter; this is their highest field goal percentage in a single quarter all season. 
  • San Diego scored 32 points in the third quarter. 
  • Sydney Hunter scored 11 points in the fourth quarter to solidify her third double-double and new career high of 29 points, 14 rebounds, three steals, and three assists.

The Toreros will return to San Diego to host LMU on Thursday, February 10 at 6 p.m. PT at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. San Diego holds a 50-31 record with a five game winning streak. Their last contest took place on January 13, 2022 at LMU and resulted in a 80-48 win under head coach Cindy Fisher
