#37 Men’s Tennis Defeats New Mexico, 4-0

SAN DIEGO – The University of San Diego men's tennis team needed just under two hours to defeat #71 New Mexico on day one of the San Diego Shakedown, 4-0.
 
USD earned the doubles point with wins at No. 1 (August Holmgren/Gui Osorio) and No. 3 (Marvin Schaber/David Norfeldt). In singles play, Norfeldt earned a quick 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 followed by Schaber at No. 4 by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Holmgren clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1.
 
"The boys got after it today against a good New Mexico team," said head coach Ryan Keckley. "We are really starting to hit our stride in a few spots and continue to play the doubles point to our identity. Marvin Schaber and David Norfeldt are connecting very well as a pair at the three doubles spot. I am excited to see if our boys can bring the same intensity and energy to their fifth match in seven days tomorrow against the winner of Penn/Washington."
 
USD improves to 9-2 on the season, and has won three straight matches.
