SAN DIEGO – The University of San Diego men's tennis team won its fourth straight match over a ranked opponent, defeating #47 Penn in the second day of the San Diego Shakedown, 4-2.
 
USD captured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 (August Holmgren/Gui Osorio) and No. 3 (David Norfeldt/Marvin Schaber) for the third straight match.
 
Osorio handled business at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win. Holmgren won his eighth straight singles match at No. 1. Will Davies clinched the win with a 7-6, 6-4 victory at No. 6.
 
"I am very proud of what the boys accomplished this week," said head coach Ryan Keckley. "The schedule was less than ideal, but the team came together after a disappointing start to their spring break and bounced back with four great wins at home, including one today against a gritty Penn team. The Quakers have played a lot of tough matches in California recently and we knew it would be battle. We came out today inspired and captured the doubles point and gained the momentum early. In singles, it was really important to capture the first four sets as it set the pathway for us to get to four. We leaned heavy on our veterans today in singles to clinch the win. We will enjoy some much deserved rest and relaxation this weekend and get ready to play host to three very good teams next week."
 
USD improves to 10-2 on the season.
