SAN DIEGO – The University of San Diego men's tennis team won its sixth straight match over a ranked opponent, defeating #27 Utah on Friday, 4-0.
 
USD captured the doubles point with 6-1 wins at No. 3 (Will Davies/Sacchitt Sharrma) and a 6-4 win at No. 1 (August Holmgren/Gui Osorio).
 
In singles play, USD got victories from Holmgren at No. 1, Osorio at No. 2, and David Norfeldt at No. 5.
 
"We knew the doubles point was going to be critical for this match," said head coach Ryan Keckley. "Utah always has very well-coached doubles, so I was excited to see how our pairs stacked up against their teams. It was a very intense point that came down to August and Gui. They did a great job digging themselves out of a few service games late in the set to give us the 1-0 lead.
 
In singles, we got off to a fast start on courts 1 and 2, but every other match was close. We pulled away at a few spots in the second sets to help us solidify the win. Hats off to our seniors for getting us to the finish line. The leadership we have on this team is making the difference in these coin-toss matches. We'll get back to work tomorrow in preparation for a very talented Harvard team come Sunday."
 
USD improves to 12-2 on the season, including 11-1 at home.
