Do you have school spirit? Love to dance and cheer? Are you an advanced level dancer who wants to pursue it at the collegiate level? Now is your opportunity to be a part of the nationally ranked USD Dance Team! Cheer for our Torero champions, and dance at Torero football, basketball and other games! Get involved in the USD student community and the surrounding San Diego community. This is your chance to become a member of one of the most well respected dance teams in the West Coast Conference.

TRYOUT INFORMATION

In-Person: Apr 23, 2022 

• OR accepting virtual entries from those who cannot travel NOW through APRIL 22th

Where: USD Sports Center Gym from 12pm-6pm

 

What to SUBMIT to achappell@sandiego.edu :

• Virtual Only: Video clip(s) of these dance requirements: double/triple turn, a technical turn of your choice, a turn sequence of your choice, jete, center leap, calypso, recent dance routines or solo (preferably in jazz, hip hop, or pom), and any optional advanced tricks.

Tryout Process

• Please make every effort to attend in-person if you live within reasonable travel distance.

  • In-Person

    • Arrive at USD SC before 12pm in a two-piece dance audition outfit (dance briefs, shorts, or form fitting leggings paired with a cropped dance top of your choice). Pack shoes that you can dance best in for technical styles as well as hip hop. Dancers can bring sweats or baggy pants to wear during the hip hop portion. 

    • Dancers will participate in a group warmup, across the floor technique, and learn at least one dance routine. Dancers should be prepared to perform 30-60 seconds of improvisation. 

Requirements:

• Each dancer is required to attend all practices during the season. We practice Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday evenings. Dancers are also required to attend all home football games, basketball games, and other required events.

• All dancers interested in a captain or co-captain position are required to attend ProAction Choreography Camp in Las Vegas .

• All dancers are required to come early to school in August and January for our semester prep camps.

• In March we travel to Las Vegas for the annual West Coast Conference.

• Upon making the team, dancers must send a check for team fees to: USD ATHLETICS - DANCE TEAM. Team fees are $850. This covers some apparel and choreography. Other team expenses are funded through the school and fundraising.
