OJAI, CA – The No. 19 University of San Diego men's tennis team swept No. 63 Gonzaga in the WCC semifinals on Friday, 4-0. The Toreros advance to Saturday's championship match.
USD earned a thrilling doubles point. After
August Holmgren and
Gui Osorio secured a 6-2 win at No. 2, Gonzaga answered with a win on court three. At No. 1,
Will Davies and
Sacchitt Sharrma sealed it with a 7-6 (7-0) victory.
In singles play, the Toreros secured wins at No. 3 (Sharrma), No. 1 (Holmgren), and No. 2 (Osorio).
"It was a great team win for the boys today," said head coach
Ryan Keckley. "They came out ready to compete and work for each other. We handled the nerves and the moment wonderfully which allowed us to play within ourselves. Every day you work hard to establish your identity as a tennis player, and I thought we executed our game plans against Gonzaga very well. This match gave us a lot of confidence heading into tomorrow's final."
San Diego improves its record to 21-3 on the season.
