SAN DIEGO — San Diego Football (0-0, 0-0 PFL) hosts La Verne (0-0, 0-0 SCIAC) for the 2022 season opener Saturday. The Toreros were selected to finish second in the PFL Preseason Poll, while sophomore wide receiver

Amir Wallace were named to the Preseason All-PFL Team.
After starting last season 0-4 (including losses to #12 UC Davis and #13 Montana State), San Diego won seven straight contests to capture its PFL-record tying 12th title. The seven straight wins is the longest streak in all of Division I college football, trailing only FBS Louisiana (13).
The contest is set to begin at 6 p.m. PT and will be streamed live on WCCsports.com with the Voice of the Toreros Jack Cronin. Live statistics will be available on USDToreros.com. This will be the first football game under the lights at Torero Stadium since 2016 (27-0 win over Western New Mexico).

• Six San Diego student-athletes were named to the 2022 Preseason All-PFL Team:
So. WR Vance Jefferson: Led the team last season with 44 receptions, 498 yards, and 45.3 receiving yards per game. Added 3 TD.
Jr. OL Finley Lecky: Named to the All-PFL honorable mention team after anchoring the offensive line.
R-Jr. DT Will Buck: Named an FCS Sophomore All-American after leading the team and PFL with 10.0 sacks in 2021.
Gr. DL Muhindo Kapapa: Has 82 career tackles, including 17.5 tackles for loss and 9.0 sacks.
R-Sr. LB David Ambagtsheer: Second on the team with 73 total tackles (39 solo, 34 assisted) last year.
Sr. CB Amir Wallace: Has 70 total tackles, two interceptions, and 16 passes defensed in three seasons.
LINDSEY WINNINGEST HEAD COACH IN PROGRAM HISTORY
• With a 69-28 win at Presbyterian last October, USD Head Coach Dale Lindsey became the winningest head coach in program history.
• Lindsey is now in his 10th season at the helm of USD. The three-time PFL Coach of the Year and four-time national coach of the year finalist is 75-25 in his head coaching career as well as a 64-6 record in conference play.
