SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's soccer program (2-5-3, 0-0 WCC) made their return to Torero Stadium, securing a 1-1 draw with Northern Arizona (1-4-4, 0-0 Big Sky) on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- On a warm day at Torero Stadium, the two sides spent much of the first half seeking opportunities and chances to open up the game.
- Freshman Cameryn Maddox had one of the top chances of the opening frame, after streaking down the lefthand side of the pitch, before putting a low grounder just wide of the right post.
- Play began to open up dramatically in the second half, with each side finding attacking opportunities.
- After securing a throw-in during the 69th minute, Ashley Wright fed a ball to Maronne Suzuki, who sent a one-touch cross into the box to an open Leila Kahoano. The freshman let the ball bounce, before volleying a shot over the Lumberjacks keeper to make it 1-0.
- The Lumberjacks increased the pressure late in the half and finished with 14 shots in the period.
- Ultimately, the Lumberjacks secured the game-tying goal on a rebound off an initial sparkling save from Sophine Kevorkian in the 83rd minute.
- Dai Williams had her initial look stopped but trickled the ball over the line on the second attempt for the tie.
