LONG BEACH, Calif. – The San Diego women's soccer program (1-3-2, 0-0 WCC) rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to secure a 2-2 draw at Long Beach State (1-2-3, 0-0 Big West) on Sunday night at George Allen Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Long Beach out-shot the Toreros 17-13, with 23 of the game's 30 shots coming in the second half.
- After limited chances in the first 20 minutes, Long Beach State was the first to score on a Lena Silano goal in the 25th minute.
- The Toreros ended the half with a 4-3 shot advantage, but the offense dramatically picked up for both sides in the second half.
- Eden Quiroz wasted little time in the second, with a 54th minute tally to tie the game.
- San Diego continue to pepper Long Beach goalkeeper Morgan Houston-Shepherd, before finally taking the lead on a goal from Josefine Schlichting in the 68th minute, set up by Cameryn Maddox and Bella Piete.
- Silano ultimately tied the game for Long Beach in the 88th minute on a bicycle kick goal, securing a draw.
TORERO TIDBITS
- Schlichting tallied the first goal of her collegiate career in the contest.
- Quiroz returned to the scoresheet for the first time since her freshman campaign. The Newbury Park, Calif., native has made a name for herself in a key holding midfield role, but now ranks second on the team in total points this season.
- Maddox added another point and has six points in six games this year. The freshman ranks in a tie for second in the WCC in points by a freshman, behind only Pepperdine's Tatum Wynalda.
- San Diego is now 12-5-3 all-time against Long Beach State.
