Kevorkian, Schlichting Power Women’s Soccer to 1-0 Win at UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. – The San Diego women's soccer program (2-3-2, 0-0 WCC) kept an undefeated September intact, defeating UC Irvine (3-2-1, 0-0 Big West) 1-0, on Thursday night at Crawford Field.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two sides locked in on the defensive end, holding each other off the board on shots on goal in the first half. In total, the Toreros and Anteaters each registered three shots in the first frame.
  • The first shot on goal for either side came from San Diego in the 56th minute.
  • UC Irvine finished the game ahead on total shots, 11-6, but the Toreros were efficient on the offensive end when chances occurred.
  • In the 78th minute, Josefine Schlichting buried the lone goal of the game, off a great crossing ball from Sara Evans to make it 1-0.
  • Sophine Kevorkian would keep the game in check for the remainder of the contest, registering three saves to secure the clean sheet.
 
TORERO TIDBITS
  • Schlichting scored the lone goal of the match and has now scored in back-to-back games.
  • Kevorkian recorded the second shutout of her college career, after blanking San Diego State on September 1.
  • Following today's win, the top-two point scorers for the Toreros are freshman, with Cameryn Maddox at six points and Schlichting at four. 50 percent of the team's 22 points this season have come from freshmen.
  • San Diego is now 11-8-1 all-time against UC Irvine, winning their second straight contest against the Anteaters.
