SAN DIEGO – Led by four in double figures, the University of San Diego men's basketball team (9-10, 2-3 WCC) never trailed in a win over Pepperdine (7-11, 0-4 WCC) on Thursday, 92-89.
Fifth year guard
Jase Townsend led the Toreros with 25 points (10-13 FG). His 10 made field goals are tied for the second most by any USD player this season.
Graduate guard
Eric Williams Jr. nearly registered a triple double, ending with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and a career-high nine assists.
Sophomore
Deuce Turner added a season-high 18 points, shooting 7-of-10 from the field with two triples.
Fifth year guard
Marcellus Earlington compiled 16 points, nine rebounds, and three assists in the win.
USD improves to 9-10 (2-3 WCC) on the season, and will travel to LMU on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- San Diego took an early 5-1 lead with a triple and a dunk from Williams.
- A 5-0 run from Pepperdine later cut its deficit to one, but San Diego then ramped up its defense to forced eight straight missed shots.
- USD rattled off a 7-0 run, including a Townsend triple, to extend the lead to 37-26 with 5:29 left.
- Two buckets from Townsend and a put back from Nic Lynch held off Pepperdine late. At halftime, San Diego led 49-39.
- Williams scored 15 points over the first 7:19 of the second half, pushing USD's lead to 69-55.
- San Diego later used a 9-0 run, including five points from Turner, to take a 19-point advantage. The Waves answered with a 16-0 run on seven straight makes to cut the deficit to three with 2:28 left.
- Townsend scored seven of USD's last 10 points over the final 2:06 to seal the win.

- Williams Jr. is averaging 15.2 points and 9.9 rebounds per contest. His eight double-doubles through 17 games played ranks top-10 nationally.
