Women’s Soccer Journey North to Face San Francisco

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's soccer program (1-12-2, 0-4-1 WCC) are back in action, heading north to face off against San Francisco (5-6-3, 2-1-1 WCC) on Saturday at 6 p.m., at Negoesco Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Toreros offense emerged, but the team could not hang on to a halftime lead, falling 4-2 to Saint Mary's on Wednesday night at Torero Stadium.
  • Josefine Schlichting opened the scoring and landed on SportsCenter's Top 10 plays with a goal from over 35 yards out, while Lauren Tanner added her first collegiate goal.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • San Diego controls the all-time series with a 21-8-1 advantage and the two sides battled to a 0-0 draw on senior day last season in San Diego.
  • San Diego's offense is slowly rounding into form, with five goals in the last seven games.
  • The Toreros are averaging 9.7 shots per game over their last three games and are fresh off their first two-goal game of the season, where they finished with 12 shots.
  • The newcomers have inserted themselves into the offense, with Lexi Zandonella-Arasa as the leading goal scorer and three new players ranking in the top-five on the team in shots (Olivia Stone, Zandonella-Arasa and Mikayla Abrenica).
  • The defense is also finding its form, allowing three of their four lowest output of shots against in the last seven games.
  • Much is spurred by the return of Kylie Perez from injury at the center back position, alongside her fellow freshman Kamryn Simpson and junior transfer Aba Dunbar.

TORERO TIDBITS
  • Sophine Kevorkian (173) currently sits in eighth on San Diego's all-time saves list. Next up is Libby Bassett (177) in seventh.
  • Kevorkian leads the WCC and ranks 31st in the nation in saves per game (5.50) and 41st in total saves (77).
  • All five of the highest single game shot totals by the San Diego offense have come either at home or in the city of San Diego.
