Women’s Basketball Set for Clash at Arizona

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's basketball program (2-0, 0-0 WCC) heads out on the road for the first time this season, traveling to Arizona (3-0, 0-0 PAC-12) in a matchup of undefeated teams on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Toreros offense and defense continued to shine, as they downed Portland State, 71-43 on Saturday afternoon at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
  • Once again, the Toreros got huge production from Kylie Horstmeyer and Kasey Neubert, as Horstmeyer tallied a career-high 18 points, while Kasey Neubert continued to crash the boards and recorded her second straight double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
  • The Toreros shot over 52.5 percent or higher again and now have it in back-to-back games to open the season. The team had only reached that threshold twice in the previous four seasons combined.

OPPONENT HISTORY
  • San Diego trails Arizona 11-3 in the all-time series and the Toreros will play the Wildcats for the second straight season, after hosting them at last season's Dana on Mission Bay Thanksgiving Classic.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • All facets of the game have been strong for the Toreros, who are finding their shot early in the season, while playing stifling defense.
  • Neubert is already off to a hot start, tallying back-to-back double-doubles in both season-opening wins.
  • Harsimran Kaur is off to a very efficient start from the field, scoring in double figures in both games and leading the WCC in field goal percentage at 71.4 percent.
  • On defense, the Toreros are allowing just 40.5 points per game which ranks in the top-10 nationally.
  • The Toreros are holding opponents to just 23 percent from the field which is fifth nationally.
  • San Diego was picked to finish fifth in the WCC Preseason Poll this season.
  • The Toreros feature five newcomers, as transfers Dylan Horton (Florida A&M) and Maddie Vejsicky (Virginia Tech) join the three incoming freshmen Lauren McCall, Malia Tharpe and Mila Wawszkowicz.

TORERO TIDBITS
  • Head coach Cindy Fisher is closing in on 400 wins in her career, standing at 391 between San Diego and Wyoming.
  • Neubert stands eight rebounds away from 600 in her career.
