SAN DIEGO – The San Diego men's soccer program (11-4-3, 5-1-1 WCC) will play host to the opening round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament, welcoming California Baptist (9-5-4, 5-1-2 WAC) for a 7 p.m., game on Thursday at Torero Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT
- San Diego clinched their second consecutive WCC title and an automatic spot in the 2023 NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 win over Gonzaga on Nov. 10.
- Cesar Bahena scored the game winning goal less than three minutes into the game with assists from Mason Tunbridge and Ethan Warne.
- Luis Ludosan made four saves and secured his third shutout in the last four games en route to WCC Defensive Player of the Week honors, as the Toreros secured their 11th WCC title.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- San Diego will play in their 16th NCAA Tournament and host a game at Torero Stadium for the first time since 2014.
- The Toreros saw nine players earn WCC honors on Wednesday, led by Tunbridge as the WCC Offensive Player of the Year, with two players on the first team (Tunbridge and Trevor Dillon).
- It's the second meeting between these two sides at Torero Stadium this season, as the Toreros defeated the Lancers, 2-0, back on Sept. 10 behind goals from Dillon and Owen Walz.
- San Diego is 13-14-1 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
- The Toreros rank 13th in the nation in total assists (40), while also ranking 32nd in total points (100).
- In addition, the Toreros rank 15th nationally in assists per game (2.22) and 34th in points per game (5.56).
TORERO TIDBITS
- San Diego has registered eight shutouts this season, which is the most for the program since 2011.
- Tunbridge now has 41 points in his last 39 games, dating back to Nov. 5, 2021 against Pacific.
- Tunbridge also ranks 23rd in the nation in assists (eight) and 49th in the nation in points (22).
- San Diego is undefeated when scoring two or more goals and scoring first so far this season.
- The Toreros have only lost two games in the last three seasons when they lead at halftime.
