San Diego Hosts Arizona State for Nationally Televised Matchup

Toreros return to Jenny Craig Pavilion on Saturday night to take on Sun Devils

SAN DIEGO — San Diego men's basketball (6-4, 0-0 WCC) is set to begin a six-game homestand on Saturday night as it continues non-conference play, returning back to the Jenny Craig Pavilion for a matchup with Arizona State (6-2, 0-0 Pac-12).

Tip-off against the Sun Devils is set for 7:35 p.m., and the action will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network with Carter Blackburn and Bob Wenzel on the call.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST ARIZONA STATE
• The Toreros are 0-3 against the Sun Devils all-time.

• San Diego and Arizona State's most recent meeting was last season on December 18, 2022, when ASU earned a 91-67 victory over USD at Desert Financial Arena.

LAST TIME OUT - USD Drops Road Decision at Utah State
• Four Toreros scored in double figures and freshman Keyon Kensie set a new career high with 10 points on Wednesday night, but San Diego dropped a tough decision to Utah State at Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, falling to the Aggies by a 108-81 margin before a crowd of 7,708.

How It Happened:
• San Diego started Wednesday night's game off strong, racing to an early 12-8 lead behind three pointers from PJ Hayes and Wayne McKinney III before the Aggies responded with a 15-0 run to pull ahead by a 23-12 margin.

• The Toreros climbed back within single digits near the midpoint of the first half when freshman forward David Simon made a layup to score the third and fourth points of his young college career, but Utah State made five straight shots down the stretch to take a 53-36 lead into the intermission.

• Hayes and McKinney III struck again to begin the second half, draining an early three and lay-up, respectively, to cut the deficit to 17 at 58-41.

•Utah State extended its advantage as the period progressed, taking a game-high 37-point lead with four minutes remaining before earning a 27-point, 108-81 victory when time expired.

Notable:
• Deuce Turner paced USD with 17 points, making seven of his 10 shots from the field as he went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.

• Hayes made a trio of three-pointers as he compiled 12 points.

• McKinney III totaled 11 points and was 5-for-10 from the field.

• Steven Jamerson II led San Diego with five rebounds and added a block.

• Simon scored the first five points of his USD career across seven minutes in what marked his second college appearance after missing the Toreros' first eight games this season due to injury.
